26 April to 3 May 2021 : a week’s celebration of the spectacular bird song in Chiselborough

Thank you to everyone who listened, observed, wrote notes and made displays for Chiselborough Bird Week. What a delightful way to mark International Dawn Chorus Day as a community. It has been soothing to know that the birds are still disseminating their magnificent sounds through the bird waves, and encouraging to note the diversity in our local area. We do hope you enjoy this page and feel inspired to continue to enjoy the diversity of birds around our village. - Hannah Lefeuvre

41 bird species were spotted and noted in total during the week.

The population status of birds regularly found in the UK is reviewed every five years to provide an up-to-date assessment of conservation priorities. The last review was in 2015. Using standardised criteria, 244 species with breeding, passage or wintering populations in the UK were assessed by experts from a range of bird NGOs and assigned to the Red, Amber or Green lists, according to their level of conservation concern.

Here below, our resident bird expert, Helen Hawke, shows us which Chiselborough birds are on which list. We have 7 species on the Red List—these are birds who are critically endangered and could become extinct.
